2005 Brewer-Clifton Chardonnay Mount Carmel - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Rita Hills - Sta. Rita Hills (1/17/2012)
Had been waiting awhile for this to put on some age, and I was amazed at how different this was from my last experience. The nose showed some tropical fruit but really it featured caramel and brown sugar on the nose. I could have sworn I was smelling a sauternes, but it took my awhile to place the smell. At the tail end was just a hint of green apple. The wine seems to have put on some weight over the years and had some viscosity to it, was it fat and heavy, no, there was still enough acid, although not enough to completely balance out the wine. It tasted of pineapple upside-down cake, meyer lemon, and sourdough bread crust. It sounds strange to write down, but in reality this wine has aged nicely, and really impressed me.
