TN: 2005 Bitouzet-Prieur Volnay (France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay)

  • 2005 Bitouzet-Prieur Volnay - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay (10/8/2009)
This takes several hours to open and reveal itself. When it does, intense floral notes, talcum/dust, ripe red fruit and spice intermingle. Pure, sappy and rich with a pretty strong finish that clamps down a bit with some chalky tannins and some focused acidity. This doesn’t just speak of place, it jumps up and down and screams Volnay. Great village wine and well worth the $30 it set me back.

Sounds very nice Josh - I know of some 2002 on a shelf that I might have to take a flyer on for about the same price.

Big fan of Bitouzet-Prieur, their '96 1er Meursaults are smoking good right now.

The 2005 Bitouzet-Prieur Bourgogne is also amazing for the $20 I bought it for a few years back… Unfortunately can’t find any more…
