TN: 2005 Big Basin Vineyards Syrah Rattlesnake Rock

  • 2005 Big Basin Vineyards Syrah Rattlesnake Rock - USA, California, San Francisco Bay, Santa Cruz Mountains (2/7/2010)
I chose this wine as my last, before a 6+ week alcohol hiatus, which should give you some idea of my regard for Big Basin. Dark, almost opaque purple red. The nose is very expressive, with notes of red and black fruit, smoke and pepper. Vibrant and concentrated flavors of blackberry, tar, smoke, white pepper, grilled meat and spice. Lingering aftertaste. Well balanced and intense fruit flavors. An exceptional wine!

I’ll duplicate my post from…ahem…over there:

Thanks Mike. Good choice for a send off.

Did you decant? Your note clearly leads me to believe the RR is in a nice spot now, but is there any reason to wait? I’ve got several of these, and I’ve been shy about opening them. I’ve had a few 2005 Mandala’s (none in about 18 months, though) that seemed ready to go, but RR seems to need a bit more time.

Thanks for the note. Still holding my for another year or 2.

What’s the deal with the hiatus? i hope self imposed and not a health issue.

Lent. I’m assuming.
Disclaimer- I was an alter boy growing up. No- I didn’t have any of those experiences. [shock.gif] [smileyvault-ban.gif]

Then we’ll overlook your Freudian misspelling of ‘altar boy’…

What, no time to edit? [soap.gif]

Not in this neighborhood, Jack.

Alter boy- yeah, I was one of those too.

Great note Mike. I love this wine.
