TN: 2004 Vietti Barolo Castiglione

I killed a baby and I liked it!!

Opened this more for educational purposes than anything else. This will obviously be better in 10 years. Gave absolutely nothing the first couple of hours. Just big tannins. Put it aside and came back to it later. Still some what tight and closed but eventually showed just a little of what I think it will eventually be.

Nose of earth, smoke and maybe a bit of black cherries. Full bodied wine with huge gripping tannins and great acidity that gave this a bit of lift on the pretty, long finish. I’m glad I opened this as I like baby killing to see how it evolves, but I won’t be touching any more for quite a few years. (Yes, even at this cheap price point, this needs a bunch of time IMO.)

I am a huge fan of this wine, and the 2004 kicks the quality up to another level. I tucked few bottles away and can’t wait to taste them with about 20 years on them!

Thanks for the note. Sounds awesome. The 04s seem to be very tasty right now. I have a bunch of different 04s (daughters birth year) and have been happy pretty much across the board.
