TN: 2004 Unison Vineyard Syrah Gimblett Gravels

Still dark ruby in color. A deep cool blackberry-plum fruited nose with some cooler herbal tones and while the fruit is ripe, it is nicely balanced, and there is no dearth of earth or structure. Medium to full bodied, and not in the least bit heavy. Nice gravelly, white pepper and rare meaty- like venison undertones frame this still relatively primary wine. There is a cool mix of fruit and and savory here. Grippy, even a little coarse-but not intrusive, tannins finish this off, and it is quite long. I am not certain if this will develop more complexity over time, but it is very enjoyable now. 90 pts (90 pts.)
