TN: 2004 Turley Zinfandel Dusi Vineyard (USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles)

  • 2004 Turley Zinfandel Dusi Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles (12/1/2009)
At Tasty China with Atlanta Group, this was one of two ZIns on the night. I thought it showed a little too flabby, not enough depth or fruit. One caveat: We were well into a night of white wine and decided to jump into these as there was the thought that Zin goes well with Chinese. I would look into trying this wine again soon as I didnt get a great sense of it.

Isn’t the Dusi considered to be among the better of the Turley zinfandels, typically? One of their ‘core vineyards’?

What do you mean by core? They have made it for a long time, but not the longest. They produce alot of it compared to some others. Either way, in discussing it again with someone who was at the tasting the 07 WS Zin, killed it. Way more fruit and nice tannins especially for something so young.

The Dusi’s I have tried just seem too ripe. That might seem redundant with Turley but they do a good job with other bottlings. I just wish they would pick the Paso stuff a bit quicker. I believe the vines are fairly old and probably put out some fruit with good character if given the chance.

You may very well be right. I thought it might have been more vintage issues with the specific vineyard. I have a few different years, I might give this a sampling.
