  I really think Dave Powell is perhaps the greatest winemaker we’ve tasted in our lives. Every bottle he makes is rich, layered, and incredibly smooth and balanced. The 2004 Les Amis is a great example of this. The nose was beautiful blend of dark raspberry, sweet strawberries, and a hint of toasty oak. The body was opulent but not overly sweet with layers of silky dark fruits, rhubarb, and vanilla. The finish was an extraordinary 60+ seconds. We had this with clam chowder, Rob’s homemade rubbed ribs, and Belgian mussels. A really amazing meal shared with family. Doesn’t get much better than this. (98 pts.)

Great notes! I adore Aussie Grenache. May I ask the price on this?

Hi Anthony:

Looking on CT, it says I bought the bottles for $130 each. Wine-Searcher shows about $165 for the lowest price. But without a doubt (IMHO), this bottle can give any 100% grenache CDP a run for its money. Best.
