2004 Shifflett Estate Red Wine (52% Merlot,25% Cabernet Sauvignon,20% Cabernet Franc,1% Petit Verdot) -Two years since the last bottle and I have to admit the wine showed nice improvement. I only decanted for about 1 hour and probably was just about right, which is in contrast to my note from two years ago, which recommended a longer decant time. I think the price for this wine is a good value at approximately $50. As for the tasting, the nose was pleasant and somewhat floral, not the fruit bomb you might expect from Napa. Mid palate showed the dominance of the merlot which created a smooth mouthfeel and provided Bordeaux like characteristics. The finish, while not terribly long, was still acceptable. This wine paired well with a NY Strip with carmelized onions. I increased my score by one point because the wine is in fact improved over my last tasting on 2/15/2008, almost two years to the day from this current tasting. 90 points, RECOMMENDED. (I have stopped using points in the last year, but since I scored this two years ago at an 89, I thought an increase was appropriate)
