TN: 2004 Saxum Syrah Bone Rock James Berry Vineyard

  • 2004 Saxum Syrah Bone Rock James Berry Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles (3/21/2009)
Decanted one hour, drank over the next 4. Dark fruit, bacon fat and smoke on the nose. Wonderful viscosity. Rich, dense, smoky, meaty. Roasted pig on a spit liquified. Tremendous minerality and acidity, can really taste the rocky influence. Just wonderful.

Any spritz?

I seem to pick it up more so than not with 04 Saxum’s.

No spritz at all. I haven’t experienced any spritz with my 04s.

Thanks for the note Brian. A tremendous wine.

FWIW, as far as I know the only 04 Saxums with spritz issues are sometimes the Broken Stones.

Cris - Unfortunately, I had the spritz/bad bottle with an '04 Bone Rock last year.

No spritz issues here with any of my '04 Saxums…or any vintage for that matter.

I had one of these about a month or so ago. The best wine I’ve tasted yet in 09. No spritz.

I keep getting spritz in my broken stones - very weird and not so enjoyable. I LOVE saxum though, don’t get me wrong!

I love this bottle, probably my favorite Bone Rock.
FWIW I had a spritzy Broken Stones and shook the hell out of it. The result was not the best Broken Stones I ever had but it was good.
