2004 Robinson Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon - USA, California, Napa Valley, Stags Leap District (11/28/2009)
My first experience with this. Popped and poured, this wine has intense ripe red cassis fruit notes. I definitely smell a reminiscence of Shafer Hillside in here, but this wine is definitely brighter with more red fruit. Lots of loam, pencil shavings, and iron notes in the nose as well. On the palate, the currant note is jammy and supple and some tannins clamp down on the finish. This wine was hidden from family on Thanksgiving and finished last night. Even after 24 hours of air, still plenty of structure, aroma, and ripe red fruits. This was very impressive and a relative value for well-made Stag’s Leap District Cabernet. (90 pts.)
