Figured I recieved a mailer this week, why not give one a go for the Sunday Bar b q? Barnyard funk when I opened, left it in the bottle for 1.5 hours to breathe after a small splash. Opened up to nice wine. Strawberries, cherries, some raspberry. Drank well over the course of the evening. Wifey liked it too. The smell and flavor profiles seem very consistent in my memory even though I haven’t had a wine of theirs in over a year. Enjoyed it, will move on to a single vineyard designate the next go round. Funny, did the same thing over the weekend. Also opened 2005 McHenry and Windy Oaks Estate for comparison. My notes on the 2004 Alesia Sonoma Coast were consistent with yours, and I even came up with the same score. Compared to the two Santa Cruz Mtn wines, the Alesia was all about dark fruits and was much more primary. Definitely a few years left in this meduim bodied wine to age. On the other hand, the McHenry and Windy Oaks were more complex and offered more of the Burgundian character. It was a close competition which the Alesia finished slightly behind in third.
