TN: 2004 Rhys Alesia Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast (USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast)

Interesting darker color but bricking. Slight barnyardy funk that blows off and leaves cherry, bushfruit and spice nose. Lighter bodied and deliciously spicy cherry on the palate. There is a definite acid backbone, but it’s nicely integrated into the wine. This has been the finest Alesia experience I have had, including the ‘declassified’ San Mateo County bottling. It was simply an elegant bottle of wine drunk at the right time. Excellent.

Great to hear that this is showing so well, Paul. I didn’t care for it too much on release, but I’m very pleased to see a mention of an acidic backbone in the wine. And I think Kevin indicated a while back (maybe a year ago at this point) that it was going through a bit of a closed phase. I’ve got one bottle left and will have to dig it out of storage sometime soon.
