TN: 2004 Realm Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Farella Vineyard

  • 2004 Realm Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Farella Vineyard - USA, California, Napa Valley (5/7/2009)
Cracked this last night to have a glass of wine or two. Initially upon opening there was a little alcohol on the nose and palate but given a few minutes in the glass the fruit came to the fruit. This wine is pretty big scaled, fruit forward. Nose is a little glyceral, with dark sappy fruit, a little mint, and some green bell pepper. On the palate it is pretty lush, with loads of cassis, bell pepper, dark chocolate/cocoa powder, and a little underbrush. Long finish and the only thing that keeps this from scoring higher is the heat which is a little distracting and requires this be drunk as close to cellar temp as possible. (91 pts.)

Great note Tony.

Mike - thanks…I occasionally deviate from drinking Pinot, Syrah, Chardonnay and some obscure white wines…

Tony, in hierarchy of ‘like’ for Realm wines, Farella is usually about 3 of 4. Sometimes Tempest beats it, most times not (It did in 2005).
My favs are ToKalon & Dr Crane. This year (o6) in reverse order.

I almost grabbed the Beckstoffer To-Kalon but decided to save that for some food.
