TN: 2004 Pride Mountain Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve

  • 2004 Pride Mountain Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve - USA, California, Napa Valley (4/15/2012)
The most un-Pride like Reserve I have ever had.
Black fruited with pure cassis, eucalyptus and black raspberries on the nose. Palate shows hints of eucalyptus, sassafras, soy, black currant with some pure black cherries notes. What I don’t find, and have come to expect from a Foley era Pride is a any sign of overt use of oak. Having hosted Steve Pride with my group last month (www.clonyc.com), this is one we did not sample. It certainly is atypical for 2004 Pride Cabs. Don’t get me wrong, I like it…alot. It’s got tons of verve and freshness still, even at 8 years old. (actually 7.5 years). Today I find some earth, solid black fruits & framboise amongst some chewy tannins and minerality which I think adds to its interest. Balance is pretty spot on. I opened this at noon to be enjoyed later; now it’s 5ish and this has really become cohesive and precise and I recommend the same 5 hour for you if you go there. Finish is long and fruit remains intact and the main player on this. Glad I have more. (93 pts.)
