TN 2004 Outpost Howell Mountain Zin

I opened this big boy about ten minutes ago. Large scaled, brambly fruit with some slight heat on the finish, that I am certain will blow off in time. Real nice fruit and complexity with long finish. TRB rides again.

Have had the '05 and '06, but not the '04. Sounds pretty much right on the money though for TRB’s style of zin.

I like that wine quite a bit. A little better than the '03, but not as much as the '02 or '05. The '99 is still the benchmark for me, although I never had it young. I find they need at least 5 years and closer to 10 to show best.

Damn, I have to wait that long!! [cray.gif] I just stored my first Outpost Zins, the 2006.

These are larger than the average bear zins, but as a 2004, I think it is ready or very nearly ready now. By the way as suspected, the alcohol heat blew off, but the alcohol blew me off. [bye2.gif] [suicide.gif]

I haven’t actually busted into my 2004’s yet for reasons unknown. I may have to hit one tomorrow night.

I’ve got a magnum of the '05 in my cellar. At least 10 for it? Nice to see so many familiar faces here. [cheers.gif]

Randy - I am no longer with the Post but the 06 is pretty accessible young. Decant for about 2 hours then enjoy. The 05 is probably the most accessible.

The 04 needs some time. Probably another 2 years. I agree with Ben. The 99 had, early last year was rockin good! The 02 is phenomenal.

The 03 is big rich ripe monster that is drinking extremely well right now.

Nice. I almost grabbed an 06 of this tonight at WineX but thought better of it for $45. I do like their zins though.

Cris - $45 is the mailing list price. It is a tasty drink of wine. Although my threshold has dropped for $45 Zins since I don’t work there anymore…

I thought that was it but yeah I’m buying way too many wines right now at that threshold. I might get week and get a bottle this weekend.

The '06 Outpost is the best '06 Zin I’ve had–definitely a standout wine for the vintage.

$40 a bottle down here.

Cracked the 04 tonight with some penne arrabiata with grilled chicken…actually much more forward that I remember as of last summer. This was rich, brambly, white pepper, vanilla, milk chocolate…very tasty…I enjoyed it very much.
