2004 Novy Family Wines Syrah Rosella’s Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands (11/5/2009)
14.5% alcohol. Still a deep red color, although perhaps the slightest hints that some bricking may come about soon. Aromatic nose of classic Rosella’s citrus, meaty black fruit, and a forest floor note. In the mouth, lush and focused, with excellent concentration. Pure fruit flavors, laced with a meaty edge, and the citric liveliness of this vineyard come into play. Strong finish that sails on. Tannins have pretty much fully resolved. The finish is quite caressing. Drinking very well. A-

Tom G, thanks for the TN. I killed one of my 2006s this week, too. As for the 2004, not my favorite of the last several vintages but not bad. The 2006 is terrific, the 2007 may turn out to be the best one Adam has made to date but I want to retaste the wine again when the shipment arrives to see how the wine has changed in the past six months.
Frank, when I tasted the the the '07 with Adam back in June I thought the same thing ( best Rosella’s ever) I had to add a couple bottles to my order. Can’t wait to try again when those puppies finally ship.
Joe, I have 4 of the 07 Rosella’s in queue, along with a pile of other things. I forget how many Novy I pend now.
BTW, dig the avatar. I spent my fair share of listening time with Bauhaus back in the day. Side note…there was an OC band that I followed way back when, that was patterned after Bauhaus called Marshes of Glenny. I suspect no one knows of them but I followed the guys and took some photos of them back in the day during some lives shows in Anaheim. Great genre.
I really like what happened to this wine with some more age on it. It was pretty brawny young. I wanted to save one a touch longer than my usual in order to see how it went. It’s solid. The 07 is excellent.
