For the holidays I recieved the book, "The finest wines of Rioja (Barquin, Gutierrez and de la Serna). Its funny, but I couldn’t read thru it without openeing something appropriate. I am still working thru the book, but the first bottle is gone. The book is very good. it covers a lot more than Rioja. Certainly I would recommend the book for anyone wanting to know more about the Spanish wine scene.

2004 Bodegas Muga Rioja Reserva Selección Especial - Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alta, Rioja (1/1/2012)
This is really starting t5o come around. Still needs some time though. Ruby in color. The nose shows cherries, some vanilla and some herbs. Rich texture which is really enjoyable, creamy. On the palate, this is developing an earthy complexity while still having a lot of cherries, dried cherries and some dark cherries. Nice balance although not as much acidity as I might have expected. Drinks very easily and just as good on day 2. (91 pts.)
