Tn: 2004 Montrose

Getting ready for a Montrose vertical dinner on Thursday night, thought I would open this to see how it was evolving. Went beautifully with grilled marinated pork tenderloin and roasted fingerling potatoes.

2 Hours in the decanter. Elegant nose of ripe blackberry, dark earth, cedar, leather and white pepper. Great balance of strucure and fruit on the nose. A little less giving on the palate - still quite primary and not showing the naunce of the nose. Not harsh or tannic, but not fully evolved either. A great off vintage wine and will only get better with another 5 years of bottle age

What constitues an “off vintage”?

Is 2004 one?

I wouldn’t have thought so…

Best regards,
Alex R.

How about “non-vintage-of-the-century”?

I have a few, but haven’t popped any. I would anticipate this wine to hit it’s stride in about 15 years. I do love aged Montrose! Thanks for the TN and looking in on this one.

Fair point Alex - perhaps “less hyped” vintage would be a better term.

Hey guys…The 04 vintage is the “vintage of the century” for me as it’s the only one I can afford!

Thanks for the note on the Montrose…can’t wait to lay my lips on one in a few!
