TN: 2004 Merus

Everything that a non-Napa drinker would despise, this wine has. Super thick, rich, lush, and full bodied, this is a wine where all the relevent adjectives describe the fruit. Considering this is a drink made of pure fruit, I think that is a good thing. Saddle leather? Nope. Hints of flowers? Thankfully not. Minerality? As if. No, this wine is pure hedonistic, monolithic, juicy fruit that is properly complemented by a strong backbone of tannins that are designed to make the wine drinkable now, not in 20 years. 94+ points. I drank a bottle of this last summer and I gave it 20 hours of air. I didn’t rate it that high but I found in enjoyable…maybe 92-93 points. I’m glad you enjoyed it more.

I love Mark Herold wines. And I love Merus. What a shame he’s not with them anymore.

Well said, sir!
