TN: 2004 Melville Pinot Noir Carrie's

  • 2004 Melville Pinot Noir Carrie’s - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Rita Hills - Sta. Rita Hills (11/13/2009)
Pop and pour. Nose clearly shows the stem inclusion - a hallmark of Melville Pinot, and something I very much enjoy. The stems bring out an herbal/menthol quality that overshadows the oak still present. I get black and red fruits, and a good dose or orange peel on the nose - overall, quite spicy and pungent, but in a good way. The palate has nice weight, and more spicy red and black fruits, good strong acidity throughout, even into the finish. The oak has not fully integrated, but is getting there, and at this stage even harkens just a BIT to a young DRC Echezeaux…just a hint! (flame suit on) Finish is not terribly long, but quite pleasant overall - would be better with the oak less present. (92 pts.)
