2004 Melis Priorat - Spain, Catalunya, Priorat (4/27/2012)
2-3 hour decant. Purple with brick red around the edges- lots of sediment. This wine is all about blueberry, cassis, licorice, blue-floral and mineral notes through the bouquet and the palate. Initially lots of cocoa and coffee-oak notes, they balance out into the wine with decant-time. The blue fruit notes then come to the fore and really enliven the wine. The feel of the tannins is coarse yet polished and full-bodied. It finishes long featuring pure blue fruit and spice. Entering a peak phase in my opinion. (93 pts.)
