2004 L’Oustal Blanc (Isabel et Claude Fonquerle) Minervois - France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Minervois (7/13/2009)
OK, so I went in with no expectations given the previous reviews however having purcahsed 6 of these from Garagiste (and having gifted one out) I was intrigued and fearful! This wine reminded me why I no longer buy from this source.
First , these are stored perfectly in my cellar. I opened it up and decanted it allowing it to breathe some and hopefully blow off some of the funk previous reviewrs noted. Old prunes and an alcoholic burn on the nose after the intial decant did not have me too excited.
After a few hours I poured this wine, stuck my nose in the glass withdrawing it immediately to a horrible burn and that old prune smell still intact. That was actually an “upside” to the taste. I could get into a rather descriptive babble to the sip but allow me to simply say this was just plain TERRIBLE. I allowed it to stay the night hoping that by some act of Mother Teresa or another would at least make this palatable…not. Down the drain went the rest of the bottle
I will bury these for a year or so and light a candle to the Blessed Mother to forgive the people making this vile liquid equally praying that this gets better. Lastly I will send another bottle of wine with a letter of forgiveness to the “friend” I gifted a bottle of this rancid purple slop.
In a word: NO ! (65 pts.)
