2004 Louis Carillon Puligny-Montrachet- France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet (4/11/2012)
Pale golden color…honey spiced, flint, orchard fruit/blossom nose. Pure and clean in the mouth…creamy peach/pear/quince fruit…loaded with really tangy, crisp citrus acidity…almost spicy! Really tasty flavors of white butter honey, crushed salty stones, tart lemon, white flowers. LOVE how crisp and bright the acid is in this…definitely shows of '04! Super village stuff…can’t imagine how good a 1er of GC would be?!! (93 pts.)
No doubt! I was lucky enough to have tasted at 17 Burgundy domaines last year and of all the 10’s I tasted through the Carillon BBM was my 2nd favorite overall for '10 wines for me. Nice guy and wonderful wines.
'10 whites, for me, were ridiculously good. Favorite was the Jadot Chevy (favorite overall, red or white) with Carillon’s BBM a close 2nd. Jobard made some fine '10’s too.
Drinking the 2009 of this right now…WOW! As it opens and warms…rich and creamy, PURE…with great nervy energy! Nuclear energy! What great flavors…cold steel, sea air, smoky flint, lemon/lime ceviche…and in perfect balance! Village??? OMFG!
That was pretty much exactly my reaction the first time I ever tasted a Carillon PM village wine.
In many vintages, I get the same the same feeling with the Donnhoff Estate - why even bother with the heavier wines [Kabinett, Spatlese, Auslese - respectively 1er Cru, Grand Cru] when the simple “table” wine is so perfect?
I don’t ball like SarahE…but I do like the wines of Carillon. Having another 04 tonight, on anticipation of a 2001 BBM we will be opening tues! Just love the pureness and cream, yet alive with minerals and freshness…nice subtle aged complexities…great flavor and feel!
Hope the 01 BBM is alive as this village!
