TN: 2004 Kosta Browne - Pinot Noir Koplen Vineyard - (Sonoma County, Russian River Valley)

NOSE: oak, raspberry, and blueberry. Not earthy, funky, or complex.

BODY: medium to medium-full bodied; earthy mahogany color of medium depth.

TASTE: oaky and a bit hot; dark fruits with hints of spice; kind of boring, and comes across more as a light & fresh Syrah than it does Pinot. In fact, I honestly believe I’d have a hard time pegging this as Pinot in a blind tasting. 15.4% alc… An Arcadian that was consumed at the same time blew this out of the water. I really wanted to like this wine, but the only way I could was to ignore the fact that I was drinking Pinot. I’m very confused about all the hype these wines garner. In scoring, I evaluated this as “a red wine,” not “as a Pinot.”

B: 50, 5, 11, 16, 7 = (89 pts.)

2006 Fiddlestix … TN posted.

Arcadian is certainly way too young, but a long decant, with some agitation from time to time, opened it up pretty well. FWIW, a couple others in my party preferred the KB … I gladly traded the rest of my last glass of the KB for the rest of another’s last glass of Arcadian. At least with the Arcadian I knew I was drinking Pinot.
