TN: 2004 Joseph Swan Vineyards Pinot Noir Trenton Estate

This is a hell of a way to spend a Monday night.

  • 2004 Joseph Swan Vineyards Pinot Noir Trenton Estate - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (8/24/2009)
14.5% alcohol. This suffers from none of the sins of 2004, although it is a bit riper than the usual example. The 2003-2004 pair of vintages shows that this vineyard will produce marvelous wines no matter what the weather. Black cherry color. Profoundly aromatic bouquet that is singular of this site. Luscious and delicious, with red and black cherry, baking spice, flowers, earth, and minerals. In the mouth, certainly a touch riper than, say, 2002 or 2005, but just pure and juicy, with gobs of fruit. The complexity is just starting to come out to play at this point. Still bright acidity gives focus. Long finish that just gushes pure fruit. A touch of tannin but very light. This will be a more early drinking Trenton Estate, but it’s going to provide excellent drinking for five or more years. A-/A

Thanks for the note Tom, I’ve had this bottle out a few times in recent months, but just couldn’t pull the cork and put it back. I guess nows the time.

I had done the same, Joe. Just decided to pull it last night, and it was beautifully enjoyable.
