TN: 2004 Joseph Phelps Insignia

The yard is flooding and the pool is overflowing so why not pop something nice to distract myself… this worked quite well. I’ve had several vintages of Insignia and this is one of the better ones.

This is the first vintage of Insignia to be made with all estate grown fruit and it’s just simply delicious. Wonderful nose of cassis, mocha, and vanilla bean. The fruit is ripe and delicious and the oak is smooth and unoffensive. Easily this is the best young Insignia I’ve had. My all time favorite vintage of Insignia has been the 97 and I would have loved to have tried that vintage when it was young to see how it compares to this one. I can only assume it must have been very similar. Fantastic wine. If you have more then one bottle, treat yourself to one soon. (96 pts.)

Tasted this wine at the winery about a year ago and totally agree. Absolutely loved it!
