Home alone in Chicago, I decided that I needed to drink a 2004 Cali cab after reading Parker’s terrific retrospective. I elected to pop a 2004 Harlan Estate.

2004 Harlan Estate - USA, California, Napa Valley (5/8/2014)
A great wine, but seems really young. If I tasted it blind, I would never peg it as a 10 year old wine. The tannins are hovering in the background, but seem nicely integrated. The nose has a fair amount of alcohol on it, which is the only detraction. I have no idea what score to give it…Bob gave it 98 which is good enough for me. An outstanding wine, but one that I think needs more time to really hit its perfect window. (98 pts.)
