Alright let me preface by saying I bought this for $4.99 from Premier Cru. I ordered five bottles and had two then decided on another 7. Is it great? no. Good? good enough for five bucks.
I expected next to nothing here but after a few bottles I thought I’d share. This wine has a funky nose, very earthy and what I could describe as minty. A little sour cherry and ripeness for sure. I was less worried about this 04 due to the ripeness in style of Magnien, no green notes. It’s definitely riper on the palate. Red fruits are dominant. I’m not saying go order a case but if you like Pinot and want a really cheap one to drink on weeknights, then this is a decent one. It also has nice acidity that can go well with food. And it tastes like Pinot, almost a mix between new world and old.
I kept looking at this one at $8. But then at $5 I was all in…but then they were out. Hadn’t seen a note. Sounds like I would have guessed. Good enough, mix of old and new world styles, nothing special or anything but a give away at that price. Thanks for the note.
Wow, David those notes are so descriptive…I can just imagine what a delight that wine was! Too bad you don’t have anyone to share it with. Good luck finding someone.
I was actually surprised how long it did last. Long enough for me to taste it and order more. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that we’ll see more of this. $4.99 Burgundy is something my Dad used to tell me about.
I picked up 2 cases of this. My notes are a bit different. For me: Light ruby color. The nose has a very bright strawberry/raspberry note with some earth. The palate is light to medium bodied and slightly dilute with some structure showing up on the short to medium finish. I really cannot believe this was $5. If the palate lived up to the nose, I would easily say this is worth $25.
