TN: 2004 Etienne Sauzet Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Referts

2004 Etienne Sauzet Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Referts - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru (11/28/2009)
Vibrant light honey gold in color, this is a terrific wine, very youthful, not a hint of premox. Shows great depth of rich stone fruit Chardonnay flavors, some lurking minerality, perfect acidity, and a long, intense finish. Just beautiful wine. As I savored this, I had to wonder why someone would drink most California Chardonnays, particularly the expensive over the top models like Aubert, Marcassin, Kongsgaard. There are a few that can sometimes rise to this level (Peay in some vintages, Dehlinger every now and then), but I just can’t name anything from California I’d prefer to drink over this. (94 pts.)

Alan,
The 04 whites at the premier cru level and village level are drinking so well right now from Burgundy.
Nice note here.
I had a 2004 Roulot Meursault Vireiuls recently that was stunning also. No premox at all.
Thanks for this Sauzet note.
Cheers.
