TN: 2004 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Valmur

  • 2004 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Valmur - France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru (10/12/2013)
Another stunningly great btl and…my last 04 Valmur. No regrets and very happy to catch this in perfect condition. Showing great class, power, minerality, salinity, citrus and finesse. This is why I own 90 btls of Chablis and will keep buying them. Even the color was still a pale green gold. (96 pts.)

sounds classic–and still young! Save a few for the long haul next time, risky but maybe worth it.

I hear ya. I have a 2000 Fevre Clos I’m sitting on because it has been the most reliable Fevre I’ve had to date. Got some 02 Dauvissats too.

Craig,

I had a knockout bottle of the '04 Valmur a couple of years ago; it was still very young but wonderfully precise and entirely satisfying.

I had their '04 Preuses a few months ago and it was certainly as good as that bottle of Valmur, but richer and more lush.

Great vintage for Fevre and I’m so glad for the small stash I bought on release.

In my experience, the 2004 Fevres rock.

I agree. Have a few bottles left of this and opened one not long ago. Great wine and no pemox in my stash so far.

I wish all of my 04s had heldup. I had a bad batch of premoxed MDTs about 2yrs ago and a local retailer refused to honor my wish to return a couple which was a real bummer. Also had a bad 04 Clos along the way too. But, this Valmur was wonderful!

Yeah I had a bunch of bad luck with '04 too. Luckily it was only half bottles and their experience saved me from buying fifths. Though the Valmur sounds great! Gotta agree that holding one for “science” would be a good move. Thanks for the note!

Loved this wine in 2010 onwards. Very 04 very valour. Very classic

I have some 04 Fevre Clos and Bougerots in magnum I’ve been trying hard to keep my hands off, but the suspense is killing me.

Add me to the list ( of bunch of bad luck with 04 Fevre’s g-crus - which I rushed to finish them).

jeebus!!!

C’est tout possible. If these wines aren’t oxidized, though, I’m afraid they will be to young (in the large format) to show well. But I’d consider sacrificing one in the spirit of scientific inquiry, serving the greater good.
