2004 Domaine Ponsot Morey St. Denis 1er Cru Cuvée des Alouettes - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis 1er Cru (4/5/2012)
deeper ruby. On the nose, darker fruited, earthy, with cool mossy undertones, some perfume and cooler fruit. Almost no green meanies (unlike the Alouettes recently). Medium to full bodied with darker fruit, almost meaty, but with acid- a cool contrast, and some stemmy earthy savory stuff that compliments rather than distracts from the fruit and perfume. This has good depth and my only quibble is a touch of midpalate austerity. Surprisingly structured and even tannic still, with an Dujac-esque textural chewiness. I don’t know if this has stem inclusion, but it seems so. Early peak and I will probably hold the rest for a couple three years at least. Excellent 90 pts (90 pts.)
