2004 Domaine Leflaive Mâcon-Verzé- France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Mâcon-Verzé (4/7/2011)
Lite golden yellow, green tinge in color. Beautiful nose of honey, lime blossom, hazelnut, spicy pear/peach, and some Heineken skunk funk. Again…I find these Leflaive MV wines to be really viscous, oily and creamy in the mouth…not like you would imagine from a Macon wine. Creamy and ripe(botrytis?) sweet fruit, as well as tangy green apple, honey, chalky minerals, and some green tea. Plenty of lemon/lime acidity, as well as some cool funk of that Heineken skunk thing. The finish is a little flat and shallow though. If you wish you could drink Leflaive everyday, without going broke…this wine would do nicely! I like this better than the 2006, which seemed to have more alcohol fume to it. (91 pts.)
Another one of these tonight…really like the “funk” in this…almost like JJ Prum funk?.. but also some nice crisp citrus acidity and minerals to go along.
Will look for some “deals” on these wines…08, 09…and would definitely pick up more 04 if I see any! How does this compare to the Bourg Blanc?
Not even same ballpark as BB. BB is declassed Puligny AOC and 1er. This shows what an under appreciated region Macon is, and what it can do in the right hands.
04 was indeed a weird year for the wine. It had a very unusual ‘funk’ on the nose. Garagiste unloaded a ton of it for a song, as I remember. I enjoyed it, especially for the money.
