2004 Domaine G. Roumier / Christophe Roumier Chambolle-Musigny - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny (10/31/2009)
Given the “green meanies” comments on the 2004s, I approached this bottle with a bit of trepidation. Half expecting it to be awful and half expecting it to wow. Well my fears were unfounded (at least with this bottle). It was downright good! Minerally, floral, lead, chalky with hints of soy. Still showing quite a bit of oak. The aromas were evident from 3 feet away. Red fruits on the palate. A very good bottle of wine.
I think there will be a few people that will always be sensitive to the green meanies, but for most, I think the phenomenon is fading away. A bottle of 2004 Hubert Lignier Morey-Chaffots last night was pure and lively and very expressive of its virtual Clos de la Roche origins.
Never found the green streak in the 04 Chambolle, I remember it to be really obvious in a 04 Cras… in any case I prefer not to worry about it, I’ll know soon enough when I open the bottle.
