TN: 2004 Darioush Cabernet Sauvignon Caravan (USA, California, Napa Valley)

Vibrant and red-black in color with pretty edges. No sign of bricking whatsoever. Nose is all pure black cassis with black raspberries. Palate shows some plushy red-black fruits with hints of cardamom, currant, red raspberries and graphite. A very focused and intense mouthfeel with a slight gobby mid-palate. Balance is pretty good after about 20 minutes opened, as it started somewhat hot, but fleshed out nicely and quickly. Teeny tiny hints of oak (aka Vanilla) and Kirsch Royal. Not sure what the blend (if any here) but I certainly sense some Merlot & Cab Franc. Finish goes long with fruits staying alive. Certainly worth the $20 or so I paid. All in all a very great QPR that over-delivers showing some breed that most definitely of a higher station (but then again, it’s Darioush). I can’t imagine any true Cab lover I know that would not fall in love with a wine such as this. Well done! (92 pts.)
