TN: 2004 Copain Syrah James Berry Vineyard (USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles)

Popped and poured. Medium dark ruby red. Asian spice and black fruit on an attractive and expressive nose. Concentrated and well integrated fruit flavors of pomegranate, blackberries, olive and blackcherry. Well balanced and lively on the palate. Lingering aftertaste. Interesting and extrememly enjoyable! Great note, Mike. It sounds like this JBV is aging well. Do you think this is at peak? More importantly, do you think that the recent “stylistic change” would distinguish this JBV’s aging potential from that of, say, the 2006 or 2007? I have never had a pre-2005 Copain and, hence, my curiosity.

Brad, I’m guessing the 04 is a year or so into a nice 5-7 year plateau. This seemed like a young, vibrant wine. I’ve not opened my 05-07s yet.
