2004 Clos du Mont-Olivet Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Unique- France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (8/17/2014)
Popped and poured. This seems at peak right now and is showing excellently. Plenty of black olive, black pepper, garrigue, and campfire on the nose. On the palate there’s leather and black olives mixed with plum and blackberry, held together by integrated acidity. Secondary flavors of black peppercorn and garrigue come out with air. Absolutely delicious. (90 pts.)
On Saturday night we enjoyed “La Cuvee Du Papet” from the same vintage. Didn’t come across as strong as the unique did for you. But the competition was fierce.
