TN: 2004 Chapoutier - Crozes-Ermitage "Les Varonniers" (France, N. Rhône, Crozes-Hermitage)

2004 M. Chapoutier Crozes-Ermitage Les Varonniers - France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Crozes-Hermitage (8/13/2014)
– popped and poured –
– tasted non-blind over a few hours –

NOSE: noticeable sickly-sweet / overripe aspect; high-toned; rubber; hint of smoke; smells like this is going to be a mess on the palate.

BODY: lots of fine particulate matter present; dark garnet-violet color of medium-deep depth, with bricking at the edges; medium-light to medium bodied.

TASTE: prunes; light dried herbs note on the finish (garrigue); good acidity; tastes better than I was expecting; almost no tannin remaining; 13.5% alc. not noticeable; finish is long and of medium intensity; solid, but not excellent; probably best to drink now.
