2004 Carlisle Zin Sonoma County
Opened with dinner. Not a good match for BBQ ribs. Must be the spice in the wine fights the spice in the ribs? Still, a gorgeous nose of black raspberries, cinnamon, and cocoa powder. Tart on first opening, but mellows in the glass after a half hour. Silky, luscious, tasty stuff! A joy to drink, this should drink well for several more years. 91 points.
Sounds great.
Great note Ken. Didn’t take you for a Carlisle devotee…also, surprised it didn’t go with the ribs.
Jorge, you just don’t know me well. I have over 250 bottles of zin in my cellar. And almost twice as many PS!!!
The match with the ribs was odd.
Hmmmm, methinks a drive up the Hudson is in order.
By all means! The drive up is lovely this time of year, and the train ride is even nicer.
Update. I was curious how this wine would hold up over time, so I saved some all week. It held up quite nicely!
Open 6 days: Finished the bottle with my sausage Bolognese with whole wheat linguine. Has mellowed further. Really delicious now. More subtle and exotic flavors now. No sign of decline. This wine should drink best 2013–2018. 92 points.
Amazingly serious Zin for a Sonoma County bottling!
