2004 Cameron Gehrt’s Pinot Noir Oregon
Bricking along the edges. It opens with mild-moderate woodsy Cameron funk. The reduction flits and flutters allowing wafts of saddle soap, plenty of spice and underlying fruit. Slight traces of barnyard. It’s an evolving changeable nose. If you need your Pinots “clean”, this wine isn’t for you. Call it naughty and layered. An integrated savory red and dark fruited attack with mild citrus and tertiary notes. Pleasant intensity with excellent supporting acidity. The flavor builds through the midpalate to a deceptively long finish. Some gently rubbing tannins. Quintessential aged Cameron and a wine that tasted blind, would puzzle more than a few Burgheads. Yum. If there’s anything good about a pandemic, it’s popping cellared treats.

Richard,
This sounds great. Wish I had discovered this producer much earlier. Thanks for the note.
Cheers,
Doug
Unsurprisingly, sounds great. I discovered Cameron after he stopped producing from Gehrt’s, but would be interested in trying one.
I like the “naughty and layered” note. If I had thought of it, I would have used for the bottles of 2008 Arley’s Leap and 2011 Clos Electrique I opened this year. Cameron is definitely a polarizing producer, but so glad they fall right in my wheelhouse.
I’ve only had the 2008 Gehrts (last vintage I believe) and it was very similar to your note. I may have one bottle left.
Between his Arley’s and Gehrt’s, I’ve typically found them both to be plenty “stinky”. The Gehrt’s was probably more so IMHO. The '04 was a reduction fest several years ago IIRC. Happy that it sorted that out. Excellent on Night 2 with the grilled salmon.

Very rarely does a bottle of Cameron make it to day 2 in the Allen household.
That’s because you have 2x as many. ![cheers [cheers.gif]](/uploads/db3686/original/2X/0/0ff9bfcdb0964982cd3240b6159868fbdf215b1a.gif)
Just finished the last few sips…nearly as good as the first night and much less funky.
