2004 Bodegas LAN Rioja Edición Limitada - Spain, La Rioja, Rioja (12/9/2009)
– decanted for an hour before initial tasting –
– tasted non-blind over 2 Days –
NOSE: ripe, rich red & purple fruits; tanned leather; not very complex, but very nice in its relative simplicity; oak, hint of florals and a crushed stone type of minerality.
BODY: very small amount of sediment present; purple-garnet color of great depth; medium-full to full bodied.
TASTE: ripe red fruits; lush mouthfeel; somewhat round; a slight citrus speck reveals itself about 5 hours after initial decant; Milk Duds oak; touch of earthiness; finish shortened with air exposure (decreasing from approx. 45 sec. to approx. 35 sec.); 14% alc.; not hot. I’d say drink near term. Day 2: perhaps a bit simpler today than yesterday; not tannic - a bit juicy, actually. Not nearly as bombastic as I thought this was last year.
B: 50, 5, 12, 17, 7 = (91 pts.)
