TN: 2004 Betz Family Cabernet Sauvignon Père de Famille

I’ve been buying on the Betz mailing list since 2003 vintage. As time has gone by, my assessment of the ability for these wines to improve with age has increased. Especially with their Bdx varietal/blend wines (PdF, CdB, Heart of Hill, etc). My rule of thumb for the Betz Bdx wines is the same as my rule for Cadence Bdx wines – don’t even start to think about opening them until 10 years after vintage. And, at least for me, that’s probably still a conservative aging assessment. And I’m finding their Syrahs aren’t much farther behind those curves either. But, as always, YMMV.

If you want something to drink young(er), then try the Besoleil (Southern Rhone blend). Much more ready to go at younger age. But, in my opinion, also the relatively weakest wine in their portfolio.
