Popped and poured with dinner, the wine is straw colored in the glass with an engaging nose of petrol, honey and yellow peach. In the mouth the peach and honey notes continue, along with baked apple and a hint of caramel. The petrol and a little slate or mineral is hiding in the background. There is a good amount of acidity to cut through the sweetness. Very nice, and good with spicy food too.
I had this a few years ago and it was so young, almost painfully so. Glad to hear it is drinking well. I love Baumards wines.
See you tomorrow night, we have a few goodies to try…
I am sure this one will improve a lot with further age, but it was definitely a nice drink now. We have about a third of the bottle left, so you can see for yourself. I am going to save my few remaining bottles for a good while.
I just finished washing wine glasses in preparation for tonight. My daughter and I bumped into Jess at Perfect Pour yesterday, and she said she thought you might have a few tricks up your sleeve.
Fortunately Wine Exchange blew this out at $20 earlier this year and I bought half a case. I won’t open one for many years. The 1985, served earlier this year, was fantastic and had plenty of time left.
Baumard is a great producer, making lovely wines.
I got to try the second half of this bottle last night. Showing lemons, honey, banana, and petrol. Herbal and honeyed in the mouth with a peppery long finish. Very lovely. $20 would be a steal for this!
Thanks for the note. As a lucky recipient of some of David Lewin’s older bottles, I can say these age beautifully.

Interesting that you had this with your meal… hmmmm… wonder how it would be with spicy Mexican dishes???
Unconventional, maybe. I opened the wine at my wife’s request after she spent all of Saturday in her lab and returned home for a late dinner (a spicy Asian stir-fry with black been, tofu and chicken). She wanted something sweet, and we were in no mood to put off wine until after dinner.
