TN: 2004 Anomaly Cab. 2007 Kirkland Cab, 2007 Merryvale Starmont, Flowers Pinot

2004 Anomaly Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon -My final bottle of this wine and in all honesty, it is just an ok wine, but not anything to write home about. Consistent tasting notes from previous tastings. It had an interesting nose, somewhat muted mid-palate with a relatively short finish. While it was a decenteffort, it needs a good number of years resting on it’s side to deliver anything worth $75 a bottle. This is really a $35-$50 bottle. Try O’Shaughnessy in the $65 price range. It is much better and less expensive.

2007 Kirkland Cabernet Upon arrival at my friends house who is a relative wine novice, he had two bottles of wine already open and decanted. He did not tell me what I was drinking and I found the wine to be somewhat disjointed and out of balance. Nose was alcoholic with petroleum notes, I thought I was at the gas station…no finish to speak of. I knew this was a very young wine and guessed it to be a $15-$20 bottle. The price from Costco is $22. While I have to admit the wine was “ok” , I wouldn’t pay $22 for it. I really got a kick out of the label on the back where they state “Drink Now Through 2014”. This wine will probably taste much better in 4 years. Save your money and buy Franciscan in this price point.

2007 Merryvale Starmont The other bottle my friend had open and it was palatable. A wine that will do better in a couple of years, but not built for the long haul. The wine was decanted for about 1 hour and is a decent lower end bottle of Cab. This is a pizza wine for weeknights at home at best.

2007 Flowers Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast - For a Sonoma Coast Pinot, this is a very good effort. We popped and poured and it was rather enjoyable. The mid palate is what stands out for me personally. With some years on its side, I think this will improve dramatically, but not worth $50 in my opinion.
