I had a 2003 A.P. Vin PN recently which was very nice and I decided it was time to check out one of my 2004s. The first one I grabbed was the Clos Pepe from the Santa Rita Hills. This was Andrew’s 2nd vintage and the wine has really come around and is showing beautifully with early secondary nuances. I believe this will still drink well for another three years or so, by then, fully mature. Elegant with a great nose and sublime texture, which has softened considerably in the past two years. My wife loved this and along with grilled Copper River Salmon w/ a light honey mustard glaze, this provided lots of pleasure and terrific acidity along with a prolonged finish. 92 points
A nice note Roy.
I’m having a 08 Ayres Pinot with my Copper River Salmon tonight…see you Thursday.
Thanks Steve. Looking forward to our new adventure.
Thanks for the note. I found this wine glorious at the end of 2005 but thought around early 2007 it had started to close. Something I didn’t expect from the 04s. Sounds like it has rounded out nicely. I will be digging my last bottle out soon.
