2003 Radio-Coteau Syrah Timbervine - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (7/19/2009)
Cracked this to have a glass of red wine after dinner. Very good. Notes of red and black fruits, a trace amount of smoke, white pepper and violets. It’s rich and full bodied but nicely balanced and seems like it has many more years ahead of it…look forward to the rest of the bottle tonight. 91-92/100 (91 pts.)

i really like Eric’s two Syrahs. both really need bottle age to shine IMO. like you i bet the 2003s are just beginning to shine.
I had the '02 Timbervine over the weekend. It was very much as you described the '03–rich and satisfying, the white pepper element really coming through, blue and red fruits. I would rate it at about a 92-93. Very happy to have a few more bottles.
Thanks for the note. I look forward to your follow up update. I can’t believe it has been 4 years almost to the day since I popped a bottle of this. I have my next bottle set for 2010 … if I can find it in my locker.

Just for Jason - day 2. This has some creaminess but a wonderful bright fruit quality, nice violet florals, lots of white pepper. The smoke seems to have subsided…this reminds me of a very good CA version of a Cote Rotie without the bacon fat…As much as I like Eric’s Pinots in certain vintages, he seems to have a firm grasp on making great Syrah…whether that is the vineyards he locked in or his abilities as a winemaker or both, it is working.
