2003 Quinta dos Roques Dão Reserva - Portugal, Beiras, Dão (5/4/2012)
– decanted immediately before tasting –
– tasted non-blind over approx. 5 hours–
NOSE: tart and juicy black cherry and red currant aromas; hints of minty cement and spice (oak?); with time, notes of roast beef jus and orange oil emerged; quite expressive.
BODY: purple-black-red color of medium-deep depth; medium-full bodied.
TASTE: non-descript purple/red fruits; hints of mint, tertiary fruit leather, smoke, and spice; moderate concentration of fruit; fruit comes across as a little roasted; drying tannin; a bit hollow on back of mid-palate; tastes young, but I worry the tannin will outlast the fruit; alcohol is not noticeable; could use more acidity. Drink now – 2017.
