Glad that others are showing some love to the '03 PC. I’ve been singing it’s praises since the 2005 UDG tasting in Chicago. I though that the PC and the Leoville Poyferre were the stars of the event. This was a steal @ less than $60 to my door. I’ve gone through a lot of bottles since then and it’s always showed well.
Nice job on those Scallops!
Popped an '03 Pontet Canet tonight. This is nothing short of fantastic. Still primary in many ways with bright dark fruits - a bit of dark cherries and dark chocolate. No sense of a hot vintage (stewed fruit - no…). Instead nice ripe fruit and tannins. The finish isn’t quite as sweet as a Cali Cab - no this still strikes me more as Bordeaux although blind I could say it seems like a good Cali Meritage just because the ripe fruit shines through. And the finish lingers and lingers.
Perfect description. I suspect the only way anyone has not loved sound bottles of that wine was if they got derailed by bias against the vintage on the label.
It’s been just a joy all the way among, and as you say, it’s perfectly Bordeaux in character.
Shhh…Alfert might hear.
