2003 Penfolds Grange - Australia, South Australia (10/3/2010)
Tasted during a Penfold’s sales meeting-seminar. Wine was not decanted. Serving temperature was perfect- +/- 65 degrees. The bouquet revealed layers of aromas. I picked up mint, olive, redcurrant, leather, vanilla, black cherry, coffee, and chocolate. This exploded onto the palate with notes of red cherry, chocolate-covered strawberry, and blackcurrant. These flavors were streamlined into the mid-palate, picking up notes of eucalyptus, coffee, and cocoa. This was silky and luxurious, befitting its status and stature. The structure was firm yet the tannins had a supple and ripe side, finishing with heady length. A true pleasure, even in a business setting. (97 pts.)
