TN: 2003 Marcarini Barolo Brunate (Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo)

Still pretty tight…but after a few hours, it opens to beautiful garnet dusty floral rose spice, dried orange rinds, anise, earth tones. Rustic wild berry/raspberry/cherry fruit with a good dose of citrus acidity. Tasty now with air…but could use a little more aging. Wish I had more. (92 pts.)

Thanks, Brian, for the note. I’ve got some '04 La Serra, and it is one of few '04’s that I popped to see how it is, while keeping the rest of the bottles in the cellar. Looks very similar to my notes, which infers a stylistic similarity among their Barolo.

My notes on the '04 LaSerra: A beautiful wine - the nose shows the sweet anise, violets, rose petals, and sweet fruits that the '04’s are happily known for. Bright and fresh overall. Silky on the palate, more bright fruits, a building midpalate, and a wall of tannic structure at the tail end. All the components are here for a blockbuster wine in at least 10 years - I will look forward to the rest in probably 12-15 years…
