2003 Les Frères Dubois et Fils Chasselas de La Tour Dèzaley Marsens - Switzerland, Vaud, Lavaux (7/23/2014)
About 10 years ago, a spirited on-line discussion as to the ageability of Chasselas/Fendant spurred me to lay down a few bottles at different price points. Not that easy given the Swiss propensity to keep their wines in house. I essayed this offering today and can report that–at least for my first attempt–the grape can indeed survive and even show some of the cheesy, figgy, sous-bois flavors of a mature white. Unfortunately this sample doesn’t reach the levels of complexity and interest that a mature white Burgundy or Italian (an inexpensive 15 year old Verdicchio is still my touchstone for aged whites) can. I’m looking forward to trying the other wines. (90 pts.)
